EDUCATION
DANCING OURSELVES
HLD’s public school residencies and assemblies
Defining ourselves and each other through movement and critical analysis
Dedicated to reflecting the true diverse nature of the world we live in, our underlying education objective is to provide a strong model of tolerance and acceptance of both ourselves and others and an opportunity for children to reflect on who they think a dancer is and then discover the possibilities.
Our unique integrated company is comprised of diverse performers. Experiencing this wide range of dancers through videos of them dancing, the students are introduced to powerful possibilities. To promote autonomy of expression, we provide physically exciting creative opportunities to explore how they define themselves and their community. We have designed both assemblies and residency programs for K-12 for different lengths of time and always culminating with a student-led dance.
The dancers are role models for students as they have been role models for our company. Dance becomes a metaphor for lives lived in today’s diverse and divisive world and a way to nudge young people into the values of equity and inclusion.
We have had in person school assemblies at schools in New Jersey and New York.
The schools include:
Paul Robeson Community School for The Arts
McKinley Elementary School
Salome' Urena Middle School
Anna Iandoli Early Learning Center

MARS (Mindful Activation Release Study)
After decades of training a wide variety of people as performers, Latsky has codified her unique method that is the foundation of her work. Originally designed to enhance and deepen the performance experience, MARS is a practice that grounds the body through specific breathing techniques and guided rocking, bringing the participant into an effortless stillness. Because of its meditative benefits, MARS has evolved into a daily movement practice. Latsky and the company offer classes that are designed to be accessible and open to anyone regardless of experience.
A WAY IN - discovering the connection between task and truth
In this workshop, participants will be first guided through MARS as a warm up. The second half will focus on the intentions, techniques, and the experience of ON DISPLAY - our movement installation that has been disrupting the urban landscape worldwide since 2015
